Join us on a tour highlighting the conservation work - both the challenges and successes - as we travel from the colonial capital city of Oaxaca to the coastal area of Huatulco!

Mexico is considered a mega-diverse country in terms of biodiversity, and Oaxaca is the most biodiverse state in Mexico. This tour will have some areas of interest for everyone and lots to learn about climate change and work that is currently underway to save species!

Sunday, Day 1: International Flights arrival to Oaxaca (OAX)

You will be met upon your arrival to the capital city of Oaxaca, the most biodiverse state in Mexico. Out hotel is close by and in the central historic zone. We will have an orientation meeting at 6:30 PM.

Overnight: Hotel Casa Divina Oaxaca (https://www.hotelcasadivina.com) or similar

NOTE: Our final day we will be flying from Huatulco (HUA) to Oaxaca (OAX) and connecting flights home. There may be the option for you to book your return flight direct from HUA/Huatulco and avoid the connection. 


Monday, Day 2: The Central Valley & Monte Alban

Exploring the central valley of Oaxaca and Monte Alban.

Tuesday, Day 3: Exploring the Pine-Oak Forests

We will depart the central valley of Oaxaca and travel towards the coast. We will spend the evening in an ecolodge nestled in the well protected and extensive Pine-Oak Forest Ecosystem. Evening presentation.

Overnight: Hotel Alto de la Sierra


Wednesday, Day 4: Las Ninfas & Local Community Visit

We will descend from the highlands to the Pacific coast and explore the marine area of Huatulco. This was an investment zone of the Mexican government similar to Cancun and Zihuantanejo. The coastal area has nine different bays to explore as well as Huatulco National Park.

Thursday, Day 5: Coastal area of Huatulco - snorkeling & terrestrial trails
We will have an early birding trip and then enjoy some of the community activities developed under the Costa Magica brand. This will give a flavor of the various initiatives and allow time for discussion about local livelihoods and conservation efforts. 

Overnight: Hotel Camino Real Zaashila

Friday, Day 6: Flight to Oaxaca and connecting flights home

We are quite close to the airport (~30 minutes). Our flight departs at 9:20 AM and we will leave the hotel at 7:00 AM, after breakfast option.
